While the form-based approach was once considered to be fundamental to competition analysis, this approach has since lost its appeal. The form-based approach has been replaced worldwide with the effects-based approach, which requires a consideration and analysis of the economic effects of firm behaviour. This necessitates an integration of economic theory into competition policy and regulation for a better understanding of competition law. This text attempts to do precisely that.
