Learn to Teach: A Handbook for Teaching Practice recognises that learning to teach effectively in a challenging environment is central to improving teacher education in South Africa. This text supports student teachers to maximise the personal and professional opportunities afforded by the practical experi of teaching.
The book explores the principles of teaching practice and equips teachers to respond to the multi-faceted challenges in basic education and in the teaching profession. Covering
four parts – the art and science of teaching, teaching pedagogy, microteaching and work-integrated teaching practice, and teacher training in cross-cultural context – Learn to Teach is suitable as a handbook student teachers can draw on throughout their
degree and beyond. It takes an inclusive approach to the diverse needs and identities of student teachers, exploring ways of personalising the teaching practice experience so as
to positively influence students’ perceptions of the teaching profession. This book is suitable for B.Ed and PGCE students enrolled in teaching practice modules, lecturers responsible for teaching practice modules, as well as mentor teachers. Inservice
